The Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter of Norwell High School attended and competed in the District Leadership Conference on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Blackford High School. Norwell High School students competed with business students from six area high schools (Adams Central, Blackford, Bluffton, Leo, Heartland Career Center, and West Noble) in contests that measure their skills and knowledge in all areas of business. Fourteen Norwell Students have qualified to go to state competition on February 27-March 1, 2011, in Indianapolis. Seven Norwell students and three Norwell student teams took 1st place in their competition .

Norwell Girls Swim

The Norwell girls swim team is off to a great start this season! November 16 the girls pulverized Adams Central and Blackford county at Blackford. Their next meet is against Huntington North at Salamoni.

The annual Veterans Day Program took place at Norwell High School. Students from both Norwell High School and Middle School, as well as staff, members of the community, and (of course) local veterans attended. The program included songs, beautifully sung by the combined high school and middle school choirs, (soloists Paige Myer and Tim McBride), a performance by the high school band, and the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

We had a really good season. We went to semi state.

The fact that i'm a senior. Oh yeah, and that I feel so tall. :)

Keep your grades up, time goes by quickly, and make as many friends as possible.

My best memory's come from track practice. One time at indoor practice me and Katlyn Best found a HUGE curly fry and it was coverd in tons of ants!

I'd probably be a cheeta so I could run faster than Hussain Bolt.

National Honors Society

Attention parents! This Sunday, October 17 a ceremony will be held in the auditorium for new inductees into the National Honor Society. Parents are encouraged to attend and support their kids. The ceremony begins at 3:00. A brief reception will be held afterward.

Boys Soccer

Last saturday the Norwell boys soccer team won sectionals. They played Bellemont in the final game and came away with a 1-0 victory to clench the title. So, now the Knights move on to regional play where they play Yorktown at Blackford on Wednesday.

Football

Last Friday night, the Norwell Knights traveled to Homestead. The knights played a good game and were the first to score. Even though the knights lost, they played a good game and didn't give up.

This Friday is the last regular season game. It will be here at the Courtyard and it is also senior night. Make sure you come out and support the Norwell Seniors.

Next week begins the post season and the Knights will be playing the Leo Lions at home.

Norwell Soccer

This Saturday at Bellmont High School, the boys soccer team will be playing Bellmont for the sectional title. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. Every year Bellmont fans flood the stadium. This year, I say we show them that Norwell has some pride left. Let's all make time to cheer on the soccer Knights to victory. Let's show the Bellmont Braves who's boss. Saturday. 7:oo p.m. Bellmont High School. Be there or be somewhere else.

Boys Soccer

Last week the Norwell Knights had two soccer games. On monday they lost 6-1 to the Homestead. Colson Crowell scored for the Knights. On Thursday they won 4-0 against Blackford. Jacob Meyer, Brandon Johnson, Brair Bolinger, and Damon Topp each scored a goal. This week the Knights play tonight at Columbia City. And on thursday they play their first sectional game at Bellemont against Heritage.

Are YOU ready for some football?

This past Friday night the Norwell Knights smashed the Dekalb Barons in a wonderous 35-0. Justin Shaffer scored 3 touchdowns, Robbie Ritter scored 1 touchdown and Grant Baker scored 1 touchdown. To add to the fantastic game, the kids from the summer cheer camp got the unique oppertunity to cheer with the varisty cheerleaders.

This week the the JV team will travel to Dekalb and the Freshman will have their last home game on Thurday also agianst Dekalb. If you haven't had a chance to watch these boys play, make sure you come out this Thursday.

The World of Volleyball

That's Chris Kramer!

The Norwell Lady Knights Volleyball team played three teams this week. Monday night, the Lady K's hosted the Adam Central Jets. In an epic clash of volleyball titans, the Lady K's emerged victorious, 3 games to 1. The following night, the Lady K's hosted the Bellmont Squaws and lost, 3 games to none. Thursday night the Volleyball girls hit the road and headed on their way to pulling out their second victory this week, 3 games to 2, against the New Haven Bulldogs. Injury has plagued the volleyball girls and they have managed to fight through this. All in all, it was a pretty good week in the volleyball world at Norwell.

I read the book They Cage The Animals At Night, by Jennings Michael Burch. This book is a true story of the author himself, Jennings Burch. This is all about the struggle of his childhood and the many hard times that never seemed to end for him. Jennings was a normal 8 year old boy living in a small home with his very poor family. He had his very ill mother, one brother in the hospital, three older brothers, and the youngest brother. The family was in hard times. And when it all became so overwhelming to his mother and she got very sick, all the children were split up and sent away to live in orphanages or other homes. Jennings experiences through these homes were very traumatic. Being beaten, or being lent out to uncaring families. This book is about Jennings journey to a new and better life that he grows to have. Its about the people he learns to love along the way, and the little things that gave him hope. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. You will fall in love with this story.

The movie GOTHIKA (Rated R, recomended for mature audiences) is a chilling ghost story where everyone thinks you're insane when only you know the truth. A woman awakes in a mental hospital where she is told she killed her husband, but she can't even remember the events. How can you convince everyone you're not crazy when you're locked in an insane asylum?

Last week boys soccer had two games. Both teams lost to DeKalb on Monday. On Tuesday the results were more favorable. The varsity team tied Heritage, while the JV team came away with a win. This week the Knights play Homestead on Monday and Blackford on Thursday. Both games are home.

Book Review

I have just finished the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson. In this book, there is an average girl named Melinda, with a not-so-average secret. Melinda finds herself rejected by her friends, cut off from her parents, and no one to understand her terrible tragedy. She does her best to block out everyone in her everyday life; she stops talking, ignores her parents and teachers, blows off the one friend she does have, and her grades plummet. Melinda tries to heal, it's a long process. She tries to tear her mind away from her tragic memorie. Melinda's story is a realistic and compelling one. It's a journey for her to try to regain her joy and strength.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

The fourth installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise is now out and blowing up box offices. Fans of the game and the movie series will love the next chapter in Alice's quest to destroy the deadly T-virus and bring down the Umbrella Cooperation. This movie is rated R by the MPAA and is recomended for mature audiences.

Homecoming Game

Last Friday was the big Homecoming game for the knights. This year was special because not only were the Knights playing the New Haven Bull Dogs, but they were playing former principal Mr. Molher and former vice-principal Mr. Hicks. Unfortunately the knights lost the game 23-21. It was close and a good game to watch.

In other news, at Friday's game Trever Sebring and Eden Chaney were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. The Homecoming court was made up of: Cassie Herdon, Paige Meyer, Kelsey Ahrens, Rebekah Witzig, Eden Chaney, Robert Connet, McCormic Clouser, Adam Burnison, Bobby Haddix, and Trever Sebring.

Finally as a reminder: the JV Football team will be playing at tonight at New Haven with kick off at 6:30 p.m. The Freshman team will play the Bulldogs this Thursday at Norwell at 6:30 p.m.

Book Review

I have just recently finished the book Notorious by Cecily Von Ziegesar. This is the third novel in the list of the "It Girl" series. These books add on to Cecily's previous series, "Gossip Girl". In Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphry is the quiet, slightly awkward freshman trying to earn a reputation of being wild and spontaneous. When Jenny transfers to a boarding school called Waverly Prep she becomes the one person she's dreamed of being her whole life. She's more outgoing, making cooler friends, guys flirt with her, and she enjoys all the new attention she is getting. Waverly is the school for the rich and famous, where your only as hot as your latest scandal. Jenny quickly catches on and is beginning to enjoy her time at Waverly. She had her two new best friends, her roommates, Callie and Brett, and she even had a little crush already. Until she finds out that her crush is her roommates ex-boyfriend. Then there are rumors that the infamous Tinsley Carmichael is returning to Waverly. Once she sees that Jenny has stolen her best friends, her room, and her popular lifestyle, you can't expect Tinsley too be kind to Jenny. Of course there are more problems in this book than just Jenny's drama. This book has it all, teacher affairs, parties, punishments, love, lust, and scandal. I would recommend this book to anyone you loves a dramatic tale.

Boys Soccer

Norwell had two more soccer games last week. On Monday they played East Noble. The JV played first and lost. Then the varsity played second. They remained scoreless in the first half. Norwell struck first in the second half on a goal scored by Brandon Johnson, but East Noble followed up the score with two of their own. With two minutes left in the game, Jaron Moser tied up the game, and sent the game into overtime. Both overtime periods went by scoreless, so the game was to be decided by penalty kicks. The first round of five kicks per team ended in a tie. So, it went to sudden death penalty kicks where Norwell lost in the first round. On Wednesday the Knights face Northrup. The JV lost 4-1. Austin Cooley scored for the Knights. The Varsity lost their game 3-1. Jaron Moser scored. This week the Knights face Dekalb on Monday and Heritage on Monday. Both games are away.

Nerd

When Nerds Attack

Today Norwell is crawling with nerds. They are everywhere. In fact there are so many because of homecoming week that it is near impossible to steal their lunch money. It seems as if everyone is a nerd. If you are wondering what the rest of this week will bring read on.
